  The year is 2670 A.D., and human civilization has collapsed following a nuclear war. The new world features intelligent apes–led by Caesar (Roddy McDowall) who encourages coexisting with the mutant humans. But, when gorilla leader General Aldo (Claude Akins) wants to overthrow Caesar and attack the mutant humans, war is inevitable. This is the final episode in the "Planet of the Apes" series, and shots from earlier "episodes" highlight the film.

It does not take long for the police to be hot on their trail. Along the way, Bandit picks up Carrie (Sally Field) who is escaping from her own wedding, and she joins in the thrill of the race. Jackie Gleason plays the frustrated sheriff in pursuit. The stunts are fast and furious.
