  Two episodes (3 and 10) of the original Star Trek TV series: "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (aired 9/22/1966, stardate 1312.4)-This episode is the first one where Spock felt some human-like emotion and his friendship with Kirk begins. The Enterprise encounters a magnetic storm at the edge of the galaxy which has a large effect on Kirk's best friend. "The Corbomite Maneuver" (aired 11/3/1966, stardate 1512.2)-During a mapping mission in uncharted regions, the Enterprise encounters a glowing, radioactive cube. When it is destroyed (after it affected ship's equipment), a large spaceship with pulsating lights appears, with a captain who wants to destroy the Enterprise. Watch your backside, Kirk!

  Convicts escape from a penal colony off the coast of South America. They board a sloop commandeered by another escapee Andre Verne (Clark Gable), and his girlfriend Julie (Joan Crawford) joins the group. Another in the group is a mystic, Cambreau (Ian Hunter), and, one-by-one, the escapees come under his spell as they die. Few survive the trip, but at the end, Verne believes that Cambreau is God, and he repents. Now, Verne returns to serve out the rest of his sentence, and Julie agrees to be there for him when he is released.

Gregory Peck won an Academy Award for Best Actor. In addition to two other Oscars, the film received five nominations, including Best Picture, Supporting Actress (Mary Badham), and Director.
