Joe Louis (Leonard Roberts) and Max Schmeling (Til Schweiger) were the top heavyweight boxers of the 1930s and 40s, and their rivalry was legendary. But–they were also good friends, and Schmeling, despite being used by Hitler as an example of the superiority of the Aryan race, was against Hitler's regime and worked against the Nazi cause during World War II.
