Julian rescues medical student Allen Guthrie (Morton Lowry) from a suicide attempt and, later, finds another doctor to use Guthrie as his next donor. Guthrie dies during the operation, and Scotland Yard begins an investigation. Meanwhile, Julian confesses his operations to Eve who marries him anyway, and they take off on an ill-fated honeymoon. The film was remade in 1959 as "The Man Who Could Cheat Death."

  Superintendent Grodman (Sydney Greenstreet) and Victor Emmric (Peter Lorre) work to clear the name of a man who the obnoxious Scotland Yard Investigator Buckley (George Coulouris) has railroaded through the court system in his zest to solve a murder. This all began as a plot to teach Buckley a lesson, but the matter quickly gets out of hand.

They follow their logic and uncover blackmail and hypnosis that are part of a plot by Lydia and Holmes' nemesis, Moriarty (Henry Daniell).
