It's leftists vs. rightists, but our "hero" really doesn't have strong political feelings–only to do his job and get his newfound love (Anna Karina).

Gino plans to settle into a new life but finds himself hounded by a vengeful cop and is pushed to the breaking point. After Gino kills the cop, he is tried and executed in what proves to be one very graphic portrayal.
