In the process, a massive cheese explosion erupts in the kitchen, but Kronk's friends come to his aid, and he learns the lesson to be "True to his Groove."

Monsters, Inc. is a power company run by monsters in the city of Monstropolis. To generate electricity, the scare assistants enter children's closets, and the ensuing screams are turned into electrical energy. There is a crisis in the land: screams are becoming hard to find, and rolling blackouts are predicted. Mike (voice of Billy Crystal) and Sulley (voice of John Goodman) are the company's best scream producers, but when they allow a little girl (voice of Mary Gibbs) from Earth to enter their domain, chaos becomes the order of the day. Randy Newman's song "If I Didn't Have You" won an Oscar, and his musical score was nominated. The film was also nominated for Best Animated Feature, a new category.
