Manny DeSilva (Lou Diamond Phillips) is an autistic ex-con who, after being released from five years in prison, tries to start a new life as a night clerk at the Reno hotel, El Cortez. Manny makes friends with wheelchair-bound gold prospector Popcorn (Bruce Weitz), and all goes well–until the detective (James McDaniel) who first arrested him arrives on the scene and tells Manny to keep an eye on the comings and goings of drug dealer Jack Clay (Glenn Plummer). When Clay's girlfriend Theda (Tracy Middendorf) gets involved, secrets rise to the fore, and the result is a deadly game of murder.

Rasputia has taunted Norbit since they were children and now continues her efforts as a hen-pecking wife. Then, one day, Norbit is reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Kate (Thandie Newton), who arrives to run the orphanage. Kate is engaged to slick Deion (Cuba Gooding Jr.), and Rasputia is more than prepared to keep Kate and Norbit apart. The film received an Academy Award nomination for Makeup.
