All goes well–until Oliver runs into trouble when conniving lawyer Dennis Andrews (Walter Byron) enters the scene with his own plans for the nearby pickle factory that uses Oliver's barrels.

  The Three Mesquiteers return with Robert Livingston in the role of Stony (after John Wayne went on to bigger and better things). Stony and his cohorts (Ray Corrigan and Max Terhune) take on the job of delivering cattlemen's money to the bank. But gang leader Dude (also played by Livingston), knowing he is a Stony look-alike, captures Stony and disguises himself as Stony. After shooting a banker, Stony and crew get serious about bringing justice to the gang leader.

  John Drury (John Wayne) saves the life of a wild horse named Duke when the horse is sentenced to death as a danger to the community after knocking a cowboy unconscious. John trains Duke and learns that Duke was framed. Later, John is about to be lynched for a crime he did not commit when the previously unconscious cowboy regains consciousness in time to name the real culprit and save John.

Walt Disney received an honorary Oscar (actually an Oscar and seven miniatures) for significant screen innovation. An all-time great–and still good.

Smith) who has stirred up High Wolf (Yakima Canutt) and his Indians by telling them that when the telegraph line is completed, their tribe will be wiped out by settlers. John does save the telegraph line and even wins beautiful Alice (Marceline Day) in the process.
