  Dr. Ravic (Charles Boyer) is a German surgeon who has fled to Paris to escape the Nazis. While illegally practicing medicine under a false name, Ravic is searching for German agent Haake (Charles Laughton) who had tortured him in Germany. Ravik falls in love with Joan Amadou (Ingrid Bergman) who is grieving over the sudden death of her lover. They become involved in a doomed love affair that hits a critical point on the day that war is declared between France and Germany.

  While visiting a remote castle owned by Paul Manderley (Douglass Dumbrille) and his wife Lucy (Lenita Lane) in the Mojave desert, Charlie Chan (Sidney Toler) finds himself involved in a murder case after weekend guest Professor Gleason (Lucien Littlefield) is poisoned. As Chan and number two son Jimmy (Victor Sen Yung) try to solve the case, they cannot eliminate any of the residents–including Manderley and his wife whose ancestors were known for poisoning their enemies. Dungeons and secret passages lie in wait as Chan and Jimmy unravel the case. One of the best in the series.

They bring Arthur back to their ranch in New Mexico where the townsfolk believe that Arthur represents nobility, and he reaches celebrity status. He even keeps up the facade when President Teddy Roosevelt (John Alexander) arrives, and the citizens hope to achieve statehood for New Mexico.

Meanwhile, Ken falls for singer Bonnie Watson (Vivian Blaine) who is the speakeasy's star performer. By story's end, all comes together, and the result is a great show. Songs include "This is Our Lucky Day," When You Wore a Tulip," and "I'm Just Wild about Harry."
