Camille decides to leave the baron and then finds that Armand's father (Lionel Barrymore) disapproves of her past and wants her to leave his son alone. Camille tries to leave Armand, but Armand pursues and supports Camille even as she lies dying from tuberculosis. Based on Alexandre Dumas' novel, this is also the story that Verdi used for "La Traviata."

  Ygor (Bela Lugosi) and the Monster (Lon Chaney Jr.) have survived the wrath of the mob of villagers and arrive at a Balkan village where Dr. Frankenstein's son, Ludwig (Sir Cedric Hardwicke), now lives. Igor and Dr. Bohmer (Lionel Atwill) convince Ludwig to place a new brain in the Monster's head. Through sly work on the part of Igor, he manages to get his own brain transplanted into the Monster, which, of course, results in disaster.

  This is Pearl Buck's prize-winning story brought to the screen. Through adversity–even Wang Lung's taking a second wife–they learn that courage, not greed, is the path to happiness. Luise Rainer, who won an Oscar for Best Actress the previous year for her role in "The Great Ziegfeld ," won an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in this film. An Oscar was also received for Best Cinematography, and the film was nominated for Best Picture and Director.

Not among the best of the series, but overall, it's fun.

But, Holmes suspects that the killer is an actor, Potts (Gerald Hamer), who is a master of disguises, and Holmes sets a trap to identify the killer. One of Rathbone's and Bruce's very best.
