She excels in the music business but turns to drugs. After trying to get clean in a sanitarium, Holliday does find a new life with gambler Louis McKay (Billy Dee Williams), but that happiness will be short-lived. Diana Ross received a Best Actress Academy Award nomination for her work in this movie.

The plan works, after a rescue by a Navy helicopter, and they arrive in Hawaii. Civilization has changed, and it is not easy to adjust–especially with those Russian spies looking for the barometer.
