  This movie won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Set in 1936 Russia, the story revolves around Stalin's Communism and the rise of terrorism through his purges. Serguei (Nikita Mikhalkov) is the husband of Marorissia (Ingeborga Dapkunaite) and father of Nadia (Nadezhda Mikhalkova). Serguei is an army colonel who passionately believes in the hopes and dreams of the Russian Revolution. In the end, he becomes disillusioned with the product of his dreams.
