| I think Emilio Estevez had made a powerful film. I hope some day it goes down as one of the greats of American independent filmmaking- which always has different values from the mega-budget "blockbusters", so it needs to be judged on its own terms. In a way, it reminded me of Garden State-simple, elegant and slightly under-drawn figures -just as we all are .I think Estevez captured that characteristic mundanity and chaotic inner-life of the subjects very well. Forget about looking for obvious thematic links between RFK and the disparate characters. It didnt need to be obvious, because at a subconscious level, there was a sense of tension slowly building out of the ordinary grist of daily life- and isnt that just how cataclysmic moments are formed? The ending was so incredibly moving- it was tinged with sentimentality and nostalgia for a lost moment but not at all mawkish, and it was just so sad. Estevez is agreat film maker when he really cares about his subject.|
