  Based on Arthur Miller's classic play about the Salem witch trials, this is an excellent film concerning the effects caused by jealousy and religion in old Massachusetts. Paul Scofield stands out as Judge Danforth who is determined to rid evil from Salem, and Winona Ryder is very convincing as Abigail Williams who deceives, lies, and wreaks havoc in order to steal her ex-lover who is the husband (Daniel Day-Lewis) of hated rival Elizabeth Proctor (Joan Allen).

This film is delightful and a must-see for all history buffs who will enjoy watching as George's own son, the Prince of Wales (Rupert Everett), makes a power play for the throne. The film won an Academy Award for Art Direction and was nominated for three others, including Actor and Supporting Actress (Mirren).

They get along well, but when Nina becomes pregnant and doesn't want her boyfriend to bring up their child, George isn't sure he should follow Nina's suggestion that they raise her child together.
