Mickey Knox (Woody Harrelson) and his girlfriend Mallory Wilson (Juliette Lewis) embark on a killing spree. Abused as children, they begin the killings with the murder of Mallory's parents (Rodney Dangerfield and Edie McClurg) and continue as they travel across Route 666 just for the fun of it. Media reporter Wayne Gale (Robert Downey Jr.) covers their story, and they make sure they are credited for their long list of victims. When Mickey and Mallory are finally arrested, they have become folk heroes in this story satirizing television's tabloid journalism.
