Abe is so upset that he tries to commit suicide and experiences a near-death experience in which he is pulled toward a bright light. When he recovers, Abe discovers that he now has the ability to see auras around people who are about to die and tries to save them from their destinies. One of the people Abe tries to save is his nurse, Sherry Clarke (Katee Sackhoff). When Abe learns that Henry Caine had also experienced a near-death experience and that those he saved went on killing sprees, Abe tries to step in and prevent mass murders from being performed by the people he saved.
