  A family flees Soviet-dominated Hungary and migrates to the U.S., but the parents (Nastassja Kinski and Tony Goldwyn) take their daughter Maria with them and must leave their baby daughter Suzanne behind. Six years later, the American Red Cross facilitates a reunion, and Suzanne (Kelly Endresz-Balanki) is brought to the U.S. where more problems ensue over the next nine years with a perplexed Suzanne failing to adapt to her new home and country. This is Suzanne's (now played by Scarlett Johansson) story as seen through her eyes as a 15-year-old who revisits Hungary in an attempt to come to terms with the circumstances of her life. An uplifting story for all ages.

  Set in 19th-century England, this is a fine adaptation of Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles." Beautiful peasant Tess (Nastassja Kinski) is sent to live with her relatives, the D'Urbervilles. It turns out that the family living there is not her family; they have bought the family's name. "Cousin" Alec (Leigh Lawson) becomes Tess' lover, and Tess becomes pregnant but loses the baby. Now, Tess goes to work on a dairy farm where she falls in love with Angel Clare (Peter Firth), but more problems lie ahead. This film was nominated for Best Picture, Director, and Musical Score Oscars–and it won for Best Art Direction, Costume Design, and Cinematography.

While conducting a symphony, Claude plots the method he will use to get revenge by murdering Daniella. But, the plan he dreams up turns out to be difficult to carry out, and the humor of his bungling becomes the name of the game.
