  First there was the great film "Room at the Top," followed by "Life at the Top." These films inspired the British TV series "Man at the Top," which, in turn, inspired this film. Business executive Joe Lampton (Kenneth Haigh) has a problem: whether or not to blow the whistle on an untested drug put out by his company. Joe knows that his boss, who is also his father-in-law Lord Ackerman (Harry Andrews), will not be happy if he does. Meanwhile, Joe's marriage falls apart, and Joe enters into a love affair with Lord's wife Alex (Nanette Newman). And Joe's problems continue.
