While there, Why meets and falls for an architect, Paul (Jean-Louis Trintignant). Frederique also makes a play for him, and before long the two head to Paris, leaving Why to suffer alone.

After much wooing, Belle falls in love with the bewitching Beast who gives her a key and tells her that if she fails to return it to him he will die of grief.
