Outside, while deciding what to do, along comes cabbie Jack (Randy Quaid) who convinces Michael to sell the dog rather than dispose of it. Thus begins a zany journey through town to sell the dog, with Jack quoting parables all the way while Michael wants to get back to Sarah's.

After the deception is revealed, Robert becomes involved with Kay O'Neill (Sylvia Syms) who helps him sell his paintings, and Suzie and playboy Ben Marlowe (Michael Wilding) become an item. Those affairs end, and romance begins between Suzie and Robert, which, after a tragedy ensues, ends with Robert asking Suzie to marry him.
