A psychologist, Chris Kelvin (George Clooney), is sent to a space station that orbits Solaris, an ocean world. Upon arrival, Chris finds the captain has died, and the only inhabitants left are two researchers–Snow (Jeremy Davies) and Helen (Viola Davis)–and one young boy (Shane Skelton). It appears that Solaris is able to capture dreams and make them a reality. Chris discovers this when he dreams of his late wife, Rheya (Natascha McElhone), and wakes up finding what seems to be Rheya lying next to him. Other strange events follow.
