This story originated as a Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur Broadway play "The Front Page." Later, three movie versions (one titled "His Girl Friday") were made. This updated version of the story revolves around television news director John L. Sullivan IV (Burt Reynolds) who tries to keep his ex-wife/news reporter, Christy Colleran (Kathleen Turner), from marrying Blaine Bingham (Christopher Reeve) and moving to New York. John offers Christy the assignment of an interview with Ike Roscoe (Henry Gibson) who is about to be executed. When Roscoe escapes, Christy's investigation leads to what could be a pardon for Roscoe.
