Failed rocker Dewey Finn (Jack Black) is kicked out of his band. Lacking a lesson plan, Dewey discovers that he has students with musical talents, and, to the consternation of the school's uptight Principal Rosalie Mullins (Joan Cusack), Dewey grooms his students as members of a rock band. Dewey's goal is to beat his former band in competition at the "Battle of the Bands" and make a name for themselves in the show business world.
