But I'm a Cheerleader 1999 R, 81 min. Genre: Comedy / Drama
Director: Jamie Babbit Cast: Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, Cathy Moriarty, Bud Cort, Mink Stole, RuPaul, Michelle Williams, Melanie Lynskey, Julie Delpy, Richard Moll, Brandt Wille, Katie Donahue, Danielle Reneau, Eddie Cibrian, Katrina Phillips
This satire, based on the premise that homosexuality can be cured, features Natasha Lyonne as the cute, all-American, Christian cheerleader: Megan. When friends and family suspect that she has homosexual tendencies, they pack Megan off to the True Directions Program where she–predictably–meets lesbian Graham (Clea DuVall) and falls in love. Fresh ideas do not abound in this plot.

Cry-Baby 1990 PG-13, 85 min. Genre: Comedy / Musical / Romance
Director: John Waters Cast: Johnny Depp, Amy Locane, Susan Tyrrell, Polly Bergen, Iggy Pop, Ricki Lake, Traci Lords, Kim McGuire, Darren E. Burrows, Stephen Mailer, Troy Donahue, Joe Dallesandro, Mink Stole, Alan J. Wendl, Kim Webb
Set in Baltimore in 1954, it is the "Drapes" vs. the "Squares" in this good comedy/musical. Cry-Baby (Johnny Depp) is the bike-riding, black-jacketed, juvenile delinquent from the wrong side of the tracks, while Allison (Amy Locane) is a good girl who falls for Cry-Baby and is looking for a new lifestyle. The 1950s are recreated well, complete with jukeboxes and music of the era.

Polyester 1981 R, 86 min. Genre: Comedy
Director: John Waters Cast: Divine, Tab Hunter, Edith Massey, David Samson, Mink Stole, Joni Ruth White, Mary Garlington
This campy satire of middle-class lifestyles features transvestite Divine as an overweight housewife whose dream man, Todd Tomorrow (Tab Hunter), "rescues" her from the rest of her dysfunctional family. When shown in theaters, members of the audience were given scratch-and-sniff cards to get the full effect of the trashy, funny film ("Odorama").

A stagecoach headed for San Francisco is hijacked by outlaw Billy Poke's gang, and among those captured are two women–Velvet McKenzie (Shannon Tweed) and Sarah Foster (Deanna Brooks). Serial Mom 1994 R, 93 min. Genre: Comedy / Drama / Horror / Thriller

Beverly Sutphin (Kathleen Turner) is a wonderful mother to her two children Misty and Chip (Ricki Lake and Matthew Lillard); perhaps she is a little bit compulsive in her child rearing. In reality, she is a serial killer determined to ensure protection for her family. Turner and Sam Waterston (as the husband) put on good performances in this "different" film.

Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th 2000 R, 86 min. Genre: Comedy
Director: John Blanchard Cast: Julie Benz, Majandra Delfino, Tiffani Thiessen, Simon Rex, Tom Arnold, Coolio, Aimee Graham, Kim Greist, Harley Cross, Mink Stole, Chris Palermo, Danny Strong, Steven Anthony Lawrence, Martin Diggs, Rose Marie
Now we're making spoofs of spoofs of teen slash movies, but this one has a couple of fun moments and originality–like the character names. Hagitha Utslay (Tiffany-Amber Thiessen) is a reporter for Empty-V News and is now covering the murder rampage going on at the high school. Not only is the killer inept, but so is the security man–Doughy (Tom Arnold)–who is hired to protect the students. Got my drift?
