In this animated, fantasized version of the meeting between British adventurer John Smith (voice of Mel Gibson) and beautiful Indian Princess Pocahontas (voice of Irene Bedard), the couple prevents all-out war between the English settlers led by Gov. Ratcliffe (voice of David Ogden Stiers) and the Native Americans at Jamestown when it is feared that the settlers want gold they see the natives trading. Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz won Oscars for Best Original Musical Score, and their song "Colors of the Wind" won for Best Original Song.

Disney succeeds in this well-made animated sequel to "The Rescuers."
