  The crew of a U.S. spaceship headed for Venus watches as Earth is destroyed by a doomsday machine developed by the Chinese. The rest of the film is devoted to squabbles and debates between crew members as to whether or not to start the human race again. This low budget film uses much stock footage.

  Newspaperman Frank (Art Carney) is forced into retirement due to a computer taking over his work. Frank bucks the system and, with the help of his wife (Maureen Stapleton), succeeds in his efforts to overturn the decision. Nineteen-year-old Michael J. Fox makes his debut in this good film. (The "letters" referred to in the title are those sent to his oldest son (Mike Farrell) expressing frustrations with his situation.)
