He escapes from jail and rejoins the gang of hoods that now includes Pretty Boy Floyd (Steve Kanaly) and Baby Face Nelson (Richard Dreyfuss). They continue the bank robberies while FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Ben Johnson) is determined to put an end to their illegal activities. This story is seen through the eyes of Purvis who is behind the gunning down of Dillinger outside the Biograph Theater in Chicago.

Valentino died in 1926 after a short life during which he became a national celebrity.
