  As the third daughter, young Belle (Josette Day) is exploited by her family and works as their servant. One day, a Beast (Jean Marais) appears and threatens Belle's father (Marcel Andre) with death unless he gives up one of his daughters. Belle sacrifices herself and goes to the castle with the Beast. After much wooing, Belle falls in love with the bewitching Beast who gives her a key and tells her that if she fails to return it to him he will die of grief.

  Conspiring French generals hire the Jackal (Edward Fox) to assassinate President Charles de Gaulle (Adrien Cayla-Legrand) in the early 1960s. The French Security Force is suspicious when the French generals who hired the Jackal have gone into hiding. They kidnap the generals' errand boy, and when questioned he reveals the assassins name. The Security Force hires ace detective Lebel (Michel Lonsdale) to track down the Jackal before he kills DeGaulle. The Jackal now assumes a new identity that will make it even more difficult for Lebel to catch him before he completes the assassination. And the mystery deepens.

  Fashion photographer Dick Avery (Fred Astaire) uses a bookstore to shoot a layout and is fascinated with hapless clerk Jo Stockton (Audrey Hepburn) who has been left with the cleanup after models and photographer have left. Not to worry, Jo is rescued by Dick who takes her to Paris and turns her into a glamorous fashion model. All this, and a love story to boot, makes a good movie.
