Following her father Michael Laszlo's (Armin Mueller-Stahl) arrest for being a Nazi sympathizer, Ann Talbot (Jessica Lange) agrees to defend her father. Laszlo was a Hungarian immigrant who came to the United States during World War II, claiming to be a farmer. It is now 50 years later, and he faces deportation because he has lied about his occupation. A trial awaits him in Hungary for wartime atrocities. Ann is convinced that her father is innocent, but as the trial progresses, she struggles emotionally as her father's guilt becomes more and more evident. Lange received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
