The Goodbye Girl 1977 PG, 110 min. Genre: Comedy
Director: Herbert Ross Cast: Richard Dreyfuss, Marsha Mason, Quinn Cummings, Paul Benedict, Barbara Rhoades, Theresa Merritt, Michael Shawn, Nicol Williamson, Marilyn Sokol, Anita Dangler
Mismatched roommates are the result of Elliott Garfield's (Richard Dreyfuss) acquiescence to financially broke Paula McFadden (Marsha Mason) and her daughter Lucy (Quinn Cummings). After all, they are living in his apartment and have nowhere to move when he arrives on the scene. The story line is predictable as the characters fall in love, but the film is a typically good Neil Simon comedy. Richard Dreyfuss won an Oscar for Best Actor. Nominations were also received for Best Actress (Mason), Supporting Actress (Cummings), Picture, and Screenplay.
