This movie is based on a true story about the Milan High School basketball team that vies for the Indiana state championship. Dennis Hopper takes on the role of Shooter (the alcoholic father of a team member) who serves as the assistant coach. Hopper received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Casey Beldon (Odette Yustman) is living a tortured life–enduring nightmares and hallucinations. After her father (James Remar) tells her that her twin brother died in utero, Casey visits her grandmother Sofi (Jane Alexander) who tells her that the Jewish demon, dybbuk, entered her brother's body while they were at Auschwitz and has been haunting the family ever since. Casey consults spiritual advisor Rabbi Sendak (Gary Oldman) who agrees to perform an exorcism and, hopefully, release the curse and allow Casey to survive.
