  This story is based on George Orwell's novel about the future under a totalitarian government whose ruler, Big Brother, forbids individuality. Winston Smith (Edmond O'Brien) is a worker for the state who falls in love with another worker, Julia (Jan Sterling). Romance is forbidden, and Julia and Winston get help from fellow worker General O'Connor (Michael Redgrave) in a plot to overthrow Big Brother. Unbeknownst to Winston and Julia, O'Connor is a member of the Government and informs on them. They are captured and sent to rehabilitation centers where, under pressure, they betray each other. The story reflects Cold War thinking of the era. Remade in 1984.

  Anthropologist Emmanuel Hildern (Peter Cushing) returns from New Guinea with the skeleton of an early human. When placed in water, flesh grows over the bones, and Emmanuel develops a serum from the blood in hopes that it will cure evil. He tries it on his insane daughter, but it has quite the opposite affect. Emmanuel's brother, James (Christopher Lee), steals the skeleton, rain falls on the bones, and an evil being terrorizes the area. A good period piece with two great masters of the genre.

  After a girl's body, scarred with fang marks, is found hanging in the church bell, the Monsignor (Rupert Davies) performs exorcism rites at Count Dracula's (Christopher Lee) castle. First on Dracula's list is the Monsignor's niece Anna (Marion Mathie) who works at a nearby pub, but the Monsignor seeks revenge and is only steps behind the vampire Dracula.

Now, his obsession with Janine (Hazel Court) who has fallen for his aide Dr. Pierre Gerrard (Christopher Lee) will lead to Georges' ultimate undoing.

  This is a good remake of the 1932 original Boris Karloff film. The story is about an archaeological dig during which British archaeologist John Banning (Peter Cushing) desecrates the tomb of Princess Ananka (Yvonne Furneaux) and awakens Ananka's lover Kharis (Christopher Lee) who was buried with her. Kharis, the Mummy, returns to life and follows Banning back to England to seek revenge. Dire consequences ensue when Kharis finds that Banning's wife (also played by Furneaux) very closely resembles Ananka.

  Hammer Films presents this high-seas adventure about young Jonathan Standing (Kerwin Mathews) who is exiled by his father (Andrew Keir) to a penal colony. The penal colony is invaded by pirates led by Captain LaRoche (Christopher Lee), and Jonathan leads LaRoche and his pirate ship to his Caribbean home where LaRoche believes a treasure is buried. LaRoche takes control of the town while searching for the treasure, and many are killed in the process. Finally, LaRoache finds the treasure–a gold statue of Jonathan's grandfather–and attempts to haul it away. But, Jonathan and his cohorts attack the raft, the statue falls overboard and sinks to the bottom of the sea, La Roche is killed, and the survivors return home.

But there are obstacles to James' cleaning up this mess. Good plot and atmosphere.

The second story, "Terror over Hollywood," involves an actress (Beverly Adams) falling in love with a leading man (Robert Hutton) only to learn that he has been turned into a robot, and the same fate lies in store for her. In "Mr. Steinway," a journalist (Barbara Ewing) interviews a concert pianist (John Standing) whose piano is possessed. Finally, in "The Man Who Collected Poe," a collector (Jack Palance) visits a fellow collector (Peter Cushing) and learns that he has brought Edgar Allan Poe back to life, and he is writing stories in the basement.
