Stan Lee's comic book character, Spider-Man, comes to the screen backed by super special effects and gripping live-action shots. The story begins with orphaned Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) living in Queens, New York, with his Aunt May (Rosemary Harris) and Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson). Peter is leading the life of a normal student–until he goes on a school trip and is bitten by a genetically altered spider. Now, Peter finds that he has unusual powers. But, using those powers is not that easy, and Peter does not make use of his new talent when a burgular murders Uncle Ben. Then Peter remembers that Uncle Ben told him, "With great power, there must also come great responsibility." That's what it takes, and now Peter uses those extraordinary powers to fight crime. However, the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) is out there ready to stop any of Peter's good deeds.
