A Manhattan literary agent Peter Lowe (Nicolas Cage) behaves in a neurotic manner and takes out his frustration on his secretary Alva (Jennifer Beals). Then, one night, he is sure he has been bitten by a vampire and that he will become one, also. Are the events imagined, or is Peter really becoming a vampire? Cage's performance helped make this film a cult classic.
