A virus has hit the U.S. resulting in corpses turning into blood-thirsty zombies. Ana (Sarah Polley) returns from her nursing duties and finds that her husband has been turned into a zombie. She escapes but finds zombies everywhere she goes. Ana is rescued by a cop, Kenneth (Ving Rhames), and then joins a small group of survivors, including Michael (Jack Weber) and Andre (Mekhi Phifer). They head for Crossroads Mall where they enjoy a few minutes of peace–until zombies arrive on the scene. Using a shuttle buss, they ram their way out of the mall and head for the boat docks hoping to find safety on an island. But, will they find that the island is really free from zombies?
