Loosely based on Britain's Great Train Robbery in 1963, this is the story of petty thief and family man Buster (Phil Collins) who goes for the bigger rewards when he falls in with the train robbers. The film follows the planning of the robbery, it's execution, and events following the heist. As the thieves are arrested one-by-one, Buster is able to elude the police. He and his family finally make it to Mexico, but his wife, June (Julie Walters), wants to return–which they do at a cost. Collins' original song "Two Hearts" won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar. .

In the second story, Daniel Daronda (Hugh Dancy) is a young Jew who is attracted to Gwendolen and is influenced by Mordecai (Daniel Evans) who lectures Deronda to be true to his heritage. When Deronda finds his inner-self, he finds true love with Mordecai's sister, Mirah (Jodhi May).
