  Nerdy teenager Cal Chetley (Devon Graye) lives in the blue collar town of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, with his mother Sharon (Patricia Clarkson) following the death of his father in a car accident. The family is suffering, and Cal's older brother Mike (John Cena), feeling guilt about the car accident, ran away from home. Mike had been a high school wrestler, and now Cal, hoping that Mike will train him, joins the high school wrestling team. Unbeknownst to Sharon, Mike does help Cal, and the mysterious Harry "Red" Newman (Danny Glover) shows up in Cal's life and encourages Cal as he tries to reunite the family.
