Leonora gets a job as a receptionist for sympathetic psychiatrist Dr. Quinada (James Mason), she does not tell Quinada that she is married, and they fall in love. Complications–including pregnancy–ensue as Leonora tries to come to terms with the difficulties in her life.

And on it goes until the seductions go full circle, and Franz is back with Leocadie.
