On September 1, 2001, French intelligence agent Irene Montano (Juliette Binoche) gets a call from her former colleague, American spy Elliot (Nick Nolte), asking her to arrange a visit between him and his daughter Orlando (Sara Forestier). Irene picks up Orlando and takes her to Paris where they team up with Elliot's stepson David (Tom Riley). Now, while Irene tries to set up meetings between Elliot and his children, she also manages to keep one step ahead of deranged CIA assassin William Pound (John Turturro) who–along with Elliot–has information about a planned attack on the United States.
