  The year is 1871, and Jo (Mariel Hemingway) has married Fritz Bhaer (Chris Sarandon), and they run a school for troubled, orphan boys. Their new student Nat (Michael Caloz) has been in trouble in the past but appears to be reforming. Meanwhile, Nat's friend Dan (Ben Cook) has remained on the streets but now comes to Jo's school where he introduces the students to drinking, fighting, and poker. Will Jo find the solution to turning Dan's life around?
