Chip is scheduled to inherit a gold mine on her next birthday, but gambler Craig Allen (John Hubbard) is trying to take the rights to the mine away from her. Roy and "Teddy" Bear step in and rescue the mine for Chip.   Gene (Gene Autry) and Frog Millhouse (Smiley Burnette) have lost their rodeo jobs and are heading home from NYC when young Ronnie Willoughby (Clifford Severn) hitches a ride with them. Ronnie has no idea that his father, Frederick (Lester Matthews), is serving time in San Quentin prison after being framed by packing company officials. Also joining the group are hitchhikers Joyce (June Storey) and her young sister Patsy (Mary Lee), and, when Ronnie tells them that he is headed to his father's "Rancho San Quentin," they keep mum. Meanwhile, Frederick assumes that Gene and Frog are kidnappers, escapes from prison, and finds them. But, the real kidnappers are on their trail, and the chase is on.
