Often, real life is better than fiction. This true story of the ill-fated, 1970's Apollo 13 space mission that suffered an explosion in the command module, is gripping from beginning to end. "Houston, we have a problem" is the message sent from the astronauts–mission leader Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon), and Fred Haise (Bill Paxton)–while on their lunar landing mission. At Mission Control, leader Gene Kranz (Ed Harris) and the original mission commander Ken Mattingly (Gary Sinise) work together with technicians and scientists to bring the crew home alive. The film won Academy Awards for Best Film Editing and Sound and had several nominations, including Best Picture and Supporting Actor (Ed Harris).

What's Eating Gilbert Grape 1993 PG-13, 118 min. Genre: Comedy / Drama / Romance

Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp) lives with his very fat–500 lbs.–momma (Darlene Cates), retarded brother Arnie (Leonardo DiCaprio), and two teenage sisters Ellen and Amy (Mary Kate Schellhardt and Laura Harrington) in the Grape family home and has more than his share of problems dealing with his very dysfunctional family. | | fringedweller 03/06/2007 | | I haven't seen this movie since it came out (1993). That's a long time ago, so I can't get down with details, but wanted to say that I felt deeply involved while watching Gilbert Grape, and I found myself thinking about this movie for many weeks afterwards. Definitley worth the time and money. |
| | Anonymous 01/20/2007 | | I assure you that I've never seen this movie, and I've never heard anything about it until now in the tiny summary above, but it sounds pretty good. It sounds adorably funny and some great actors are in it, so I am very sure I will watch it soon. I'll post something about it as soon as I see it. |
