  Ruth and John Bowman (Jeanne Crain and Carl Betz) are enjoying a trans-Atlantic honeymoon cruise when John disappears. To make matters worse, the passenger list has Ruth listed under her maiden name. Then the ship's doctor, Paul Manning (Michael Rennie), gets involved and helps Ruth uncover what has really happened to her husband.

As the only seaman among the group, Willy takes charge, and their fate lies in Willy's hands. Alfred Hitchcock received an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.

Nominations included Best Picture, Supporting Actor (Charles Bickford), two Supporting Actress (Gladys Cooper and Anne Revere) and Director.
