Miss Giddens has been hired by the children's uncle (Michael Redgrave) as a governess, and soon after taking the job, she starts seeing ghosts. Then she learns from the housekeeper (Megs Jenkins) that the children may be possessed with evil spirits. While questioning her own sanity, Miss Giddens does decide to rescue the children from whatever has them in its grip.
