This is, perhaps, the best of the films made about the William Shakespeare play, which tells the story of Scottish nobleman Macbeth (Jon Finch) who wants power and is driven in his quest by his mad wife Lady Macbeth (Francesca Annis) and many prophecies. Violent, but well told.

The Scarlet Pimpernel   1999     2 and a half stars    TV, 90 min.
Genre: Adventure
Director: Patrick Lau
Cast: Richard E. Grant, Elizabeth McGovern, Martin Shaw, Anthony Green, Ronan Vibert, Christopher Fairbank, Gerard Murphy, Ron Donachie, Beth Goddard, Milton Johns

Not a bad remake of the classic story as Richard E. Grant takes on the role of Sir Percy Blakeney who saves aristocrats from the guillotine during the French Revolution. Witty.
