After he finds an injured red-tailed hawk, twelve-year-old Billy Baker (Lee Montgomery) takes the hawk to a hermit, Mr. McGraw (Burl Ives), who lives in the hills. Billy and McGraw tame the hawk, but then it attacks a bully who is fighting Billy. When a group of vigilantes decide to take action against McGraw, Billy talks his father, Dan (Clint Walker), into coming to the aid of McGraw and to stand up against the vigilantes. An entertaining Western for the whole family.
