Hayward at full throttlemovie-dahl 02/04/2008
Susan Hayward chews up the scenery in a highly entertaining film. That is good enough, folks.

FilmFiend 05/24/2007
I'm a big Susan Hayward fan, but this is one of her films that was beneath her talent. I noticed that her film company, along with her second husband, Chalkmar, was involved in the production of this flick. I think at that time in her life, when she was happy in her second marriage and no longer lusting after an Academy Award (which she received for her excellent work in 1958 in I Want to Live), she was interested in occasional work which would afford her and her husband the opportunity to travel.

Most of her post-I Want to Live films were inferior, sad to say, including not only Ada, but the awful I Thank a Fool. While Back Street wasn't much better, at least she got to wear very nice fashions. The Honey Pot was a better film, but her role was small.

However, I'm such a big fan of hers, I still watch the clunkers, too.

Genre: Comedy
Director: Vittorio De Sica
Cast: Peter Sellers, Britt Ekland, Victor Mature, Paolo Stoppa, Martin Balsam, Akim Tamiroff, Lydia Brazzi, Maurice Denham

This Neil Simon vehicle follows a lovable crook who manages to get caught and imprisoned every time he attempts a crime. He escapes and begins his next caper of smuggling $3 million via an Italian seashore by pretending to be making a movie. Though not one of Neil Simon's best, it still has some good laughs. Mature, as an over-the-hill actor, is great.

The story of the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, is well-told as the events leading to the attack are revealed–documentary style–from both the U.S. and Japanese viewpoints. The film begins with scenes from the perspectives of both countries as the diplomacy between Japan and the United States collapses. The second part of the film switches to the deadly mission and a spectacular re-creation of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The film won and Oscar for Best Special Visual Effects.
