Then there is Detective Bruner (Kelsey Grammer) who is on the trail of that bookie Victor. The lives of these gamblers weave together onto a tragic course as the big college basketball game draws near.

Set in the Pacific Northwest, this film's scenery is the film's highlight as it provides the setting for a romantic triangle. Beyond that, this soaper will only appeal to the affectionate few.

Henry Fonda plays Norman Theyer, an old man with a feisty attitude, and Jane Fonda stars as his insecure daughter Chelsea. There is plenty of humor with touching moments in this excellent film. Katharine Hepburn as Ethel, Norman's understanding wife, received an Oscar for Best Actress. Henry Fonda also won an Oscar for Best Actor. In addition to one other Oscar for Screenplay, there were seven nominations, including Best Picture, Supporting Actress (Jane Fonda), and Director.
