As their friendship grows, Bruno begins to question the Nazi doctrines that his family, including his mother (Vera Farmiga) and sister Gretel (Amber Beattie) follow, and Bruno even begins to doubt the "heroism" of his Nazi father.

Brenda Blethyn received an Oscar nomination for Supporting Actress.
