Melvyn Orton (Dudley Moore) is a real estate agent with a deal to be made; Mike Lawton (Bryan Brown) is a hit man with a job to perform; and Maurice Horton (Richard Griffiths) has a rendezvous set up by a dating service. Their missions get swapped due to a bellboy (Bronson Pinchot) who has poor English language skills. Weak farce.

  Set during World War II, this is eight-year-old Bruno's (Asa Butterfield) story of the forbidden bond he forms with a Jewish boy Shmuel (Jack Scanlon) who is a prisoner in the concentration camp that Bruno's father (David Thewlis) commands. As their friendship grows, Bruno begins to question the Nazi doctrines that his family, including his mother (Vera Farmiga) and sister Gretel (Amber Beattie) follow, and Bruno even begins to doubt the "heroism" of his Nazi father.

Enter Gloria (Tara Fitzgerald) with her flugelhorn, and bandleader Danny (Pete Postlethwaite) foresees a win for his band.

  "Little Voice" (Jane Horrocks) never speaks above a whisper unless she is singing a Judy Garland or Marilyn Monroe song; then she is able to perfectly mimic their voices. The plot involves the attempt by her mother's lover (Michael Caine) to exploit Little Voice for the money he thinks she can earn on the stage. Brenda Blethyn received an Oscar nomination for Supporting Actress.
