In the 1980s, Randy "The Ram" Robinson (Mickey Rourke) was a pro-wrestler but now spends his spare time working at menial jobs and some fights in the local wrestling circuit to pay the rent at his trailer park. He has been trying, without success, to talk stripper Cassidy (Marisa Tomei) into committing to a relationship with him and also has not had much luck reconnecting with his estranged daughter Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood). Now, a high profile rematch with wrestling great The Ayatollah (Ernest Miller) presents itself, and Randy must decide between the thrill of the crowd or the risk of his own mortality. Rourke received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and Tomei was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
